Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Arsenal have now made enquiries to sign Wolves winger Pedro Neto this summer, and a deal for the Portuguese talent could advance in the “next week”.

Neto, 22, has starred for Wolves over the course of the last three seasons after moving to Molineux from Lazio. He has clocked up 93 appearances and despite his tender age, still managed to have a hand in 23 goals and assists.

Little surprise, then, that reports this week claim Arsenal have a ‘long-standing interest’ in Neto. The Midlands club have now completed a move to sign Goncalo Guedes from Valencia and that could see Arsenal swing into gear.

Indeed, Jones suggests it has done. The Gunners are said to have opened talks and made enquiries over the possibility of signing Neto – a Jorge Mendes client. Jones claims there could be movement in the coming days.

Jones: Arsenal have made Neto enquiries

Arsenal have options out wide. On the left, they have Emile Smith-Rowe battling Gabriel Martinelli to start. On the right, Arsenal have Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe. But the latter is expected to leave Arsenal this summer.

So, bringing in Neto in as a replacement for Pepe makes sense. Whether Arsenal can offload Pepe remains to be seen, but there is interest in his services. Reports claims Leeds and Newcastle want to sign the Ivory Coast international.

Pepe could be on his way out of the door, then. So, signing Neto might be just as much of a necessity as it is an exciting addition. He suits Arsenal’s transfer ethos – experienced, but still between the ages of 20 and 25.

The only issue Arsenal may find in trying to sign Neto, is that he has a contract at Wolves until the summer of 2027. It means the ball is in Wolves park, and they will be able to charge whatever they want for him. The Sun say £50m.
