West Ham United want Conor Gallagher but Chelsea have rebuffed an enquiry into a loan deal for their homegrown midfielder.

The Hammers are still keen on midfield additions this summer even after adding Flynn Downes from Swansea City.

Mark Noble has retired, Alex Kral’s dismal loan spell is over and there have been some surprise murmurings about Tomas Soucek’s future.

A deal for Amadou Onana hasn’t come off with the Lille star now set for Everton instead, and West Ham seemingly won’t be signing another midfield target either.

West Ham United want Conor Gallagher

The Guardian report that West Ham have made an enquiry into signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

However, West Ham were told in no uncertain terms that Gallagher has no interest in leaving Chelsea for another loan move right now.

Gallagher, 22, starred on loan at Crystal Palace last season in what was his fourth spell away from Stamford Bridge.

Gallagher had previously gained valuable experience with Charlton Athletic, Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion before joining Palace.

Eight goals in 34 Premier League games was a strong record for Gallagher and he has featured for Chelsea in pre-season.

Gallagher was only named on the bench for Chelsea against Everton on Saturday but did come on in the second half.

There is plenty of midfield competition at Chelsea but Thomas Tuchel will be able to use five substitutes this season, meaning Gallagher should receive playing time.

Gallagher may also simply feel that this is the time for him to really kick on at Chelsea after a host of host loan spells.

Mason Mount and Reece James have come first-team stars at Chelsea and Gallagher may believe that he can do the same.

A loan move to West Ham would be ideal for Moyes, but maybe not for Gallagher, who has already shown his quality away from Stamford Bridge.

Once again for West Ham after missing out Onana, it will be back to the drawing board in the search of midfield additions.
