Jermain Defoe has claimed that Callum Wilson’s goal during Newcastle United’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday at St James’ Park was ‘beautiful’, as he told Premier League Productions (06/08/22 at 5:10 pm).

Eddie Howe’s side picked up from where they left off last season by securing all three points against the newly-promoted side, as Defoe labelled Wilson’s movement and improvisation for his goal as ‘top’.

With 163 Premier League goals to his name, a player like Defoe was pretty lethal and clinical in the final third during his playing days.

Therefore, the soon-to-be appointed Tottenham academy coach knows a very good goalscorer when he sees one and Wilson is certainly that.

After injury once again disrupted Wilson’s season in 2021/22, he will be hoping for something very different during this campaign, as Defoe applauded the player for his goal yesterday.

“This is brilliant (Wilson goal),” said Defoe. “Watch his movement, delayed and then gets across that near post. It was improvised, that little flick, yes it was a slight deflection.

“But that little flick, that’s beautiful. That is a top goal.”

CALLUM WILSON TO EARN ENGLAND CALL FOR WORLD CUP?

That’s the main aim for the Englishman and he has come out and spelt it out in public, but will he get his chance?

Well, the first thing he needs to do is stay out of the treatment room because he has been pretty unfortunate since being at Newcastle, in that regard.

If he does that, then there is no reason why he can’t score the goals that get him noticed and for a team now in the spotlight and improving under their new Saudi-led ownership.

Harry Kane is, without a doubt, the undisputed number one for the Three Lions, it’s a case of who is next in line for Gareth Southgate.

Well, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was the man picked for Euro 2022, although, he has spent most of the time injured since then, whilst Roma’s new hero, Tammy Abraham, is currently the one being selected.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins is another player that has been picked by Southgate, but he was on the bench during Villa’s 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.
