Speaking on the Transfer Talk Podcast, Sky Sports’ Pete Graves has been discussing Newcastle United and their interest in James Maddison.
The Magpies are very keen to bring Maddison to the club this summer, bidding twice already, and according to Graves, there’s a real chance that the England international ends up at St James’ Park.
In Graves’ opinion, there’s a 50% chance that this deal will happen, while people within Newcastle have been indicating that there is a lot of work to do if United are to get this one over the line.
What’s been said?
Graves shared what he’s been hearing about Maddison.
“Do I think James Maddison will sign? It’s a really tough one I have to say I’m 50/50. I think there’s some way to go on that one. The feeling I get from people I speak to at the club is that there is work to do, but they have been encouraged by going in for a second bid. Would they go in for a third time? They wouldn’t be bidding if they thought there was no chance, but Leicester will have to drop their demands a little bit,” Graves said.

Work to do
People within Newcastle believe that they have a lot of work to do on this Maddison deal, but luckily, they have the people at the club capable of doing it.
Dan Ashworth is one of the best in the business when it comes to negotiating deals, while Eddie Howe himself has a knack of convincing quality players to join his teams – look at how he convinced Sven Botman to come to England.
Factor in the investment from the owners and Amanda Staveley’s influence and you have something of a transfer dream team.
This deal will be difficult, but Newcastle are a club capable of pulling off this type of transfer these days.
