According to Sky Sports, Everton are interested in signing Conor Coady from Wolves.

The England international is seemingly out of the reckoning at Molineux as the Midlands club prepare for a shift to a back four, and the Toffees are keen to bring him to Goodison Park.

However, there are bound to be some contrasting emotions at play here.

As a local lad, a return to Merseyside may well appeal to Coady, but he’d probably rather join Liverpool than Everton.

Indeed, Coady has made it no secret in the past that he’s a Liverpool supporter, and that may affect how Everton supporters view this deal.

What’s been said?

Coady went on the record to speak about supporting Liverpool in 2019.

“Everybody knows I supported Liverpool growing up but I’m playing for Wolves now,” he said.

“I look at Liverpool’s results and hope they win games – it’s as simple as that.

“But I play for Wolves now and I play for this football club no matter who we are playing against. We’re going there to win and that’s the mentality we’ll all have.

“My mates are all Liverpool season ticket holders. They keep saying things to me about it. I’ve had millions of ticket requests, absolutely millions. I don’t know how I’m going to do it to be honest.”

Professional

Coady may well be a Liverpool fan, but if he joined Everton he’d surely give his all for the Toffees.

These footballers may have their favourite teams, but at the same time, they’re professionals who are paid good money to do their jobs.

We’ve seen fans of either club cross these borders in the past, Jamie Carragher, Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler were all Evertonians before joining Liverpool, and they didn’t do too badly for themselves at Anfield, did they?

Coady’s Liverpool allegiances will certainly be a talking point if this deal happens, but it probably won’t affect his performances for the Toffees if he does join.
