Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are determined to sign Manchester City target and Leicester City central defender Wesley Fofana in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed on Twitter that Chelsea had an offer of over £70 million for Fofana turned down by Premier League rivals Leicester City on Friday.

However, Chelsea are planning to make a third bid for the defender, according to Romano, who has added that the Frenchman is “100% keen on the move”.

Chelsea’s determination to sign the youngster will come as a blow for defending Premier League champions Manchester City.

That’s because Pep Guardiola’s side are also reported to be keen on the 21-year-old.

According to L’Equipe, City and last season’s Ligue 1 winners Paris Saint-Germain both are keen on signing Fofana, described as “an exceptional player” by former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson on Sky Sports News (12:13pm, November 20, 2021).

What next?

In our view, if Manchester City want to sign Wesley Fofana, then they have to make a bid of their own now in order to stop Chelsea from striking a deal with Leicester City.

Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay more than £70 million for the 21-year-old, which shows how much they value him.

If City think that Fofana will make them better, not just for now, but for years to come as well, then they simply have to get involved in the bidding.
