Speaking on the Transfer Talk Podcast, Sky Sports’ Pete Graves has been discussing Newcastle United’s transfer plans and their chances of signing a new striker this summer.
The Magpies have been tipped to do big things in this transfer window due to their status as the richest club in the world, but, as of yet, they haven’t really got going.
Indeed, the Tyneside club have only added three players to their squad thus far, and fans are starting to grow concerned about their lack of quality and depth up top.
However, Graves has alleviated those fears, stating that Newcastle will definitely be adding a new number nine to their squad this season.
What’s been said?
Graves made a definitive transfer claim about Newcastle.
“I think they will definitely sign a striker, 100 per cent, whether that’s a loan or a permanent remains to be seen, but they’ll definitely sign a striker and I think they’ll add to the right hand side as well,” Graves said.
Who will it be?
Graves says that Newcastle will definitely get a new striker in, but this isn’t about just getting a body through the door.
Indeed, the Magpies need to add quality in this position if they’re to challenge at the top end of the Premier League this season, and unfortunately, there aren’t many elite strikers on the market right now.
There have been links to the likes of Alexander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but after poor 2021/22 seasons for both of those players, there’s a feeling that either of those moves could be a bit of a risk.
Of course, with Dan Ashworth at the helm, Newcastle probably have a trick or two up their sleeves, but they need to get to work if they’re going to be challenging for Europe this term.
