Speaking on The Done Deal Show, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has been discussing Newcastle United’s hunt for a new attacking midfielder.

The Magpies are in the market for a new creative force in their attack, and while James Maddison is seemingly their top target, landing the England international is proving rather difficult.

Therefore, some alternative targets are being lined up.

United have already been linked with Ross Barkley this week, but now, Jacobs is claiming that the Tyneside club have an interest in another Chelsea player – Hakim ZIyech.

What’s been said?

Jacobs spoke about Ziyech.

“I know that Newcastle like the player (Ziyech) as well and that’s one to watch, even though they’ve been more linked with Timo Werner, who knows? There’ll be other Premier League clubs who will hijack on these kinds of deals towards the end of the window, particularly in August where we’re entering panic mode,” Jacobs said.

Would be interesting

Hakim Ziyech to Newcastle has the potential to genuinely be one of the summer’s most interesting transfers.

Yes, the Moroccan hasn’t had the best of times in England since arriving at Chelsea two years ago, but this is an incredibly talented player.

He was a star at Ajax, he’s a Champions League winner, and if he’s given a more prominent and free role at Newcastle, he could finally show his unbelievable ability in the Premier League.

He has a wand of a left foot and an eye for a pass, and at Newcastle, he could be allowed to flourish.

James Maddison may be the number one target, but if Newcastle have to go down the Ziyech route then there really can’t be many complaints from the St James’ Park faithful.

This is certainly a situation worth keeping an eye on as we approach the final weeks of the transfer window.
