Alan Brazil and Gabby Agbonlahor have questioned Carney Chukwuemeka after he secured a transfer from Aston Villa to Chelsea, as they told talkSPORT.
Former Villa striker Agbonlahor made it clear that the club would ‘never’ have paid Chukwuemeka £100k-a-week, whilst talkSPORT pundit, Brazil, questioned the player’s ambition now he will be seemingly handed those type of wages at Chelsea.
Aston Villa confirmed on Thursday on Twitter that the 18-year-old has joined Chelsea – it has been reported that the London club are paying £15 million, plus £5 million in add-ons for the midfielder, as reported by BBC Sport.
Chukwuemeka has less than a year running on his contract and there were no signs that a new deal was going to be signed.
In fact, Steven Gerrard decided to leave the player at home for Villa’s pre-season tour of Australia this summer because he seemingly wasn’t happy with the teenager.
But with Chukwuemeka now out of the door and in Chelsea colours, Agbonlahor blasted the London club for having this reputation of giving young players ‘too much money’, as Brazil also shared his thoughts.
“If you are 18 and you are getting £100k-a-week, I just wonder,” said Brazil. “Look, it’s brilliant for him, well done and if Chelsea give him it, then he feels he deserves it.
“But what does that do to you? £400K-a-month. What ambition do you have, after that?! He’s made for life now. As soon as he’s signed the contract, even if he lasts only 18 months, that’s it, he is made up for life.”
Agbonlahor on Chukwuemeka: “I am one to back the players, but this one I can’t. I feel that he hasn’t done anywhere near enough to be asking for the money he is asking for.
“If Aston Villa gave him what he wanted, then what does that set for other players coming through the academy, who have five or six good games? I hope not (on Carney wanting £100k at Villa). Aston Villa would never have paid that.
“But for Villa, it works for them, they have sold him for £15 million with add-ons. What does say about Chelsea? We will give you what you want? Chelsea have got that reputation of always giving young players too much money at a young age. Is he going to be inspired?”

BOTH CHELSEA AND ASTON VILLA ARE WINNERS
This is a win-win situation for both Chelsea and Aston Villa, but it will be interesting to see how things pan out for Chukwuemeka during these coming years.
For Villa, they were going to lose the player for very less than £1 million in January because he didn’t want to sign a new contract.
Added with that, he wasn’t a key player for the club, he has only made two starts in the Premier League and played around 500 minutes for the club on the senior stage.
Therefore, getting £20 million for the youngster is some serious business from Johan Lange and the Midlands side.
For Chelsea, they have a top, top talent on their books and someone who can become a superstar player by the time he comes out of his teenage years.
