Reports emerging from Ghana Web claim that Tottenham have been scouting Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus despite the Ghanaian being more of a fringe player with the Dutch side – and could make a move this summer.

Kudus, 22, joined Ajax for £7.5million (Dutch News) in the summer of 2020. Since then, he has managed just 43 outings in all competitions – scoring six goals. But his versatility is eye-catching, able to play in numerous positions.

Even for Ajax, he has played as a striker, a 10, a box-to-box midfielder or sitting in front of the defence. There is no doubt that he could probably do a job out wide. The report says Tottenham’s scouts have been watching Kudus.

However, the desire to get him this summer is not urgent. Spurs are keen to sign him in the coming weeks but they are more than happy to look at a deal next summer, too. He has a contract at Ajax until the summer of 2025.

Tottenham have been scouting Kudus

While Spurs do have options in midfield and in attack, adding a player that would happily sit on the bench but can cover both positions is ideal. Kudus has already clocked up 16 caps for Ghana, so clearly, he has the quality.

It depends how much Ajax would want for his services. Given he was bought for £7.5million, he will be worth more than double that now. Kudus will also be aware that his game time may reduce under Antonio Conte.

His best move right now is to keep impressing at Ajax and show Tottenham why he deserves to be a regular fixture of the starting XI, if he does end up moving to North London. Perhaps, next summer.
