French newspaper Le Parisien claims Everton will pay £8.4million for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye this summer – with a deal thought to be ‘close’. It will see Gueye return to Everton, three years after leaving.
Gueye, 32, is well-liked at Everton. The 94-time Senegal international spent three years at Goodison Park, clocking up 108 appearances before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain. He has entered the final year of his PSG contract.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday night that a deal is close, returning to Everton after winning six titles with PSG. Now, an update is provided by reliable French newspaper Le Parisien, claiming Everton are buying him on the cheap.
- Newcastle and Tottenham want Leeds star, but Elland Road is his best move
- Robin Koch an unsung hero at right-back in Leeds’ final games of 21/22
Gueye left Everton for PSG for a whopping £30million. But it seems as though Everton will pay slightly over a quarter of that figure to bring him back, at just £8.4million. That is according to Le Parisien, who also a deal is ‘close’.
The return to Everton will surely delight Toffees supporters – given the need for new signings, but players that they can rely on. Gueye is certainly that, even prompting reaction from David Henen, an ex-teammate, on Twitter.
Everton will pay £8.4million for Gueye
It is an enormous bargain. Yes, Gueye is 32 but in footballing terms, he is a young 32 given his stamina. He is still churning out well over 30 appearances a season and it would be more, had it not been for the PSG competition.
Allan could leave Everton, as could Andre Gomes. Tom Davies is a solid option but he is hardly good enough to start. Everton need a midfield dictator, one to offer a proper shield in front of the defence. Gueye is perfect, and cheap.
