Nichelle Nichols’ passing

It was reported yesterday, by her son Kyle Johnson, that Nichelle Nichols had passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, in Silver City, New Mexico. She was 89.

Nichols portrayed the iconic role of Lieutenant Nyota Uhura on the show between 1966 and 1969, and the actor’s portrayal paved the way for black women in television.

Writing on Nichols’ official Facebook page, Johnson confirmed that the actor had passed away and wrote a personal message to fans:

“Her light however, like the ancient galaxies now being seen for the first time, will remain for us and future generations to enjoy, learn from, and draw inspiration.”
