It’s early days, but Liverpool and Sadio Mane are both doing okay without one another so far.
After six years as a Liverpool player, the Senegal international quit this summer and wound up joining Bayern Munich for around £30 million.
Mane was a massive factor in the Reds’ success under Jurgen Klopp since 2016.
However, Klopp’s side picked up their first trophy without him on Saturday, winning 3-1 against Manchester City in the Community Shield.
That being said, Mane has also recorded his first piece of silverware too after helping Bayern to a Super Cup victory over Red Bull Leipzig, and scored one of the German giants’ five goals on the night.
But Mane remains a Liverpool supporter despite leaving.
At least, that is the view of Bild journalist Christian Falk, who revealed that the 30-year-old watched as much of his old team’s performance against City as he could before having to represent his new club.
Mane’s replacement, Darwin Nunez, opened his account against Pep Guardiola’s side, too.
The Uruguay international, Liverpool’s most expensive signing of all time following a £85 million move this summer, nodded home a third in injury time to seal the title for Klopp and co at The King Power Stadium.
And as popular as Mane was on Merseyside, well there’s a good chance that Nunez will only gradually improve and therefore they won’t be thinking about the former Southampton attacker all too regularly.
