According to ESPN, Newcastle are interested in bringing Palmeiras wonderkid Giovani to the Premier League.

What’s the story?

Well, after luring Bruno Guimaraes to Tyneside, Eddie Howe is now keen to sign another exciting Brazilian.

ESPN believe Bayer Leverkusen and Ajax are also interested in the 18-year-old, with the latter already submitting two bids for the teenage sensation.

The most recent of those offers was worth €12m (£10m) – it was rejected by Palmeiras.

Interestingly, Giovani has a release clause worth €60m (£50m) written into his contract, so those keen to sign him will have to offer a lot more than £10m.

According to ESPN, the Palmeiras No.17 is set to receive more first-team action next season after Gabriel Veron was sold to Porto, with the Brazilian giants hoping for him to step up and become his immediate replacement.

That is, once he recovers from his ankle injury.

ESPN add that Newcastle and Bayer Leverkusen have been waiting for Giovani to fully recover before continuing their respective pursuits for his signature.

Newcastle could have a gem in Giovani

If the Magpies can successfully fend off Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen, they could have a gem on their hands.

At Palmeiras, Giovani is considered to be the crowning jewel and their most highly-rated prospect.

In fact, Goal have even compared him to Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus, as well as Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.

If he goes on to become even 50% as good as the pair, then Newcastle shouldn’t think twice about bidding.

After the prodigy grabbed his chance in the first-team with both hands, Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira said: “Giovani took the opportunity very well. He has been showing many good signs, leaving some of the more experienced players behind. He is a left-footed player who is capable of unbalancing games. He has scored many points in my mind.”

Hopefully, Howe and Dan Ashworth – Director of Football at Newcastle – make a move for Giovani soon, or they risk losing out to Ajax or Bayer Leverkusen.
