Leeds United want Philipp Max as Jesse Marsch seeks to add a new left back to the squad at Elland Road.

Victor Orta’s early business has been so good that Leeds are only really seeking a couple more additions at this stage.

Leeds are chasing another striker to support Patrick Bamford, which seems to be the priority at the moment.

Yet there is another key area of concern with a new left back potentially needed.

Junior Firpo’s injury means Leeds may be pressed into adding another option there – and one new target has emerged.

Leeds United want Philipp Max

Tuttomercatoweb reported on Wednesday that Leeds want to sign PSV Eindhoven star Philipp Max and have already made an offer.

A bid worth €8million (£6.7million) has allegedly been made, with Leeds turning to the German as a potential signing.

Max, 28, became a star in Germany with Augsburg yet made a surprise 2020 move to PSV.

Max has proven himself to be very reliable; he’s played more than 40 games in each of the last two seasons.

The attacking output is what attracts people to Max.

15 goals and 29 assists in 156 outings for Augsburg was hugely impressive from left back, whilst he has now bagged eight goals and 18 assists in 91 games for PSV.

Leeds would no doubt love to harness that attacking quality and Max certainly has the backing of former Germany boss Joachim Loew.

Loew has been quoted by DW as saying that Max is ‘definitely a good player’ and ‘very efficient’.

Loew added that Max ‘sets up a lot of goals’, seemingly liking the attacking threat he provided before finally calling him up for Germany duty in November 2020.

Max is clearly well-respected for the quality of chances he can create up the left flank, and that may be something Leeds fancy as competition for Firpo moving forward.
