According to The Athletic, Dwight McNeil could have a medical at Everton within 24 hours, despite interest from Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, it was said that Tottenham made contact with Burnley over a deal for the winger.

Crystal Palace and West Ham also held talks to sign the 22-year-old, but he now seems set to join Frank Lampard at Goodison Park.

The Athletic believe Everton and Burnley are in advanced talks over a deal, which could see McNeil travel to Finch Farm within 24 hours to finalise his move to Merseyside.

According to 90min, the Toffees submitted a £20m bid for the England Under-21 international, which the Clarets were happy to accept.

The Athletic add that Everton have held a long-standing interest in McNeil, who has racked up 134 Premier League appearances at the age of just 22.

If the deal materialises, the Burnley No.11 will join his old teammate James Tarkowski at Goodison Park.

Interest in McNeil comes after he made 40 appearances in all competitions last season, providing one assist.

Tottenham can react to Everton signing Dwight McNeil

In our view, Spurs should react to missing out on McNeil by signing his Burnley teammate Maxwel Cornet.

Antonio Conte is said to be interested in the Ivory Coast international, who outshone McNeil at Turf Moor.

In his debut season in England, Cornet scored nine Premier League goals, whereas the man wanted by Everton failed to score in 40 appearances last term.

In truth, we’re not quite sure why Lampard hasn’t gone for Cornet instead, seeing as he has lost Richarlison to Tottenham and needs to inject his frontline with goalscorers.

In our view, the Ivorian is the better player, and if Conte wants to take his anger out on something after missing out on McNeil, signing Cornet would be a wise option.
