Leicester City could make a move to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno with club captain Kasper Schmeichel reportedly close to joining French side OGC Nice.

According to GFFN, the Foxes are considering a move for the German international in order to allow their long-standing goalkeeper to leave for Ligue 1, with Leicester only granting Schmeichel a transfer if they can find a replacement, with Leno one of the players on Brendan Rodgers’ watchlist.

As well as FC Nante superstar Alban Lafont, Leciester will seemingly have to act fast to sign a replacement for Schmeichel, with the Danish goalkeeper already agreeing to personal terms with Nice, as well as Leno closing in on a move to Fulham, with Arsenal reportedly eager to offload the 30-year-old.

Viewed as an outcast for the Gunners, Leno was demoted to the bench last season following the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale, and whilst reports suggest that the former Bundesliga star wants to stay in London, Leicester could be a more appealing destination for the German given their incredible pedigree in the Premier League.

Indeed, the Foxes have finished fifth in two of the last three Premier League seasons, and whilst Leicester won’t be competing in Europe next season, a move to the King Power will surely entice Leno over signing for Fulham, who look set for a relegation dog fight no matter who they bring in.

With Schmeichel also earning a reported £130,000-a-week, Leno could earn similar wages to what he was making at Arsenal, and with Germany heading into a World Cup year, playing for Leicester would be a lot more appealing to Hansi Flick than Fulham at the other end of the Premier League table.

Leno is set to leave Arsenal this summer, and Leicester should be pushing hard to sign the German over Fulham, who always seemed out of their depth in their attempts to bring the former Bayer Leverkusen star to west London given their likely struggle to stay in the division.

With Schmeichel eager to leave and Leicester having the funds to make a signing happen, Leno could now and should be set for a move to the 2016 Premier League champions, where the Arsenal misfit would become an instant hit at the King Power Stadium.
