Raul de Tomas has been linked with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in recent times, and now Bayern Munich have joined the race for the Espanyol striker.

Arsenal linked with Raul de Tomas

According to a report in SuperDeporte in June, Arsenal were interested in signing De Tomas from Espanyol and were planning to make a bid.

The Gunners have since signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has Eddie Nketiah as his other senior striker, but he could well decide to add another player who can operate as a number 9.

After all, many managers like three senior strikers in their squad for an entire season to give them the maximum chance of achieving success.

Newcastle United eyeing Spanish striker

Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Newcastle United are also interested in De Tomas.

According to Relevo via GSFN this month, Newcastle are interested in bringing the 27-year-old Spain international striker to St. James’ Park.

Bayern Munich join race

However, Arsenal and Newcastle are now facing stiff competition from German and European giants Bayern Munich for De Tomas.

ARA have reported that Bayern have identified the striker as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who has moved to Barcelona from the Bavarian giants in the summer transfer window.

Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world, regularly win the Bundesliga and challenge for the UEFA Champions League.

The German powerhouse would also be able to meet Espanyol’s demands for a transfer fee, as they have just sold Lewandowski to Barcelona.

Stats

De Tomas made 33 starts and one substitute appearance in La Liga for Espanyol last season.

The 27-year-old Spain international striker scored 17 goals and gave three assists in those matches.
