Atletico Madrid are about to give Yannick Carrasco a new contract that will see the Belgian reject any interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in his possible transfer.
That’s according to Marca, who note the Colchoneros are working hard with the forward’s agent, Pini Zahavi, to reach an agreement. The La Liga giants and Carrasco’s representative have been in contact for months over a potential deal that will increase his release clause.

Discussions are currently focused on the salary that Atletico Madrid are willing to offer the 28-year-old to extend his commitment. Carrasco is currently locked down until 2024 at the Civitas Metropolitano, and the Colchoneros accept his salary does not reflect his standing.

Both parties are keen to reach an agreement over a new deal, but one is not yet imminent. Atletico Madrid are also eager to raise his release clause from €60m (£51m), knowing that he will hold a key role with Belgium at the 2022 World Cup, along with his role at the club.
Carrasco set for new Atletico Madrid contract amid Newcastle, Tottenham interest
Carrasco regained a vital presence in Diego Simeone’s squad last season, although his form also interested a host of Premier League clubs led by Newcastle. The Toon are showing the most intent to gain the 57-cap star’s services among the sides who are ready to pay €60m.

Newcastle have been considering triggering the existing release clause in Carrasco’s terms for weeks, per AS. But as well as needing to pay a club-record fee, the Magpies have faced rival interest from London with AS citing Tottenham and Chelsea as possible landing spots.
Manchester United also approached Zahavi to discuss Carrasco moving to Old Trafford this summer. The Red Devils, Spurs and Blues have also each offered the winger an important salary to quit Atletico Madrid, who currently pay him £141k-a-week, through this summer.
But interest from Newcastle, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United appears unlikely to prise Carrasco from Atletico Madrid and Simeone’s clutches. So, he should now strive to build on the six goals and seven assists he hit over 44 games last term in the new season.
