Speaking on the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin YouTube channel, Spurs legend Graham Roberts has been discussing Tottenham’s transfer business this summer.

The north London outfit have been amongst the busiest teams in the Premier League during this transfer window. They’ve added no fewer than six new signings and they may not be done yet.

Roberts is hoping that his former club add a new midfielder to their ranks before the window closes, naming Leicester City duo James Maddison and Youri Tielemans and two players he would like to see Spurs target.

What’s been said?

Roberts named Tielemans and Maddison as players he’d like Tottenham to go for.

“I think if we can get a decent midfield player, I would go for James Maddison or someone like that, Tielemans or someone like that. Because they have been there and done it in the Premier League, I also think we need another striker because we can’t play Harry every week,” Roberts said.

Maddison makes more sense

Tielemans and Maddison are two tremendously talented footballers who have proven themselves at this level, but we can’t help but feel that only one of these potential signings would make sense.

Indeed, bringing Youri Tielemans to Tottenham at this point just doesn’t seem to have many benefits.

Spurs already have the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur to play in the midfield in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3, and Tielemans wouldn’t really bring anything new.

Meanwhile, as more of an attacking presence, James Maddison would allow Spurs to switch to a 3-5-2 when necessary, while he could also slot in in one of the wide attacking areas in a 3-4-3.

Signing Maddison would make infinitely more sense than Tielemans for Tottenham.
