Everton want Ruben Vinagre and a deal for the Sporting left back is now thought to be on the verge of completion.

It has been a frustrating summer for Everton, though many will have expected some difficulties in the transfer window.

James Tarkowski is still the only new face at Everton and Frank Lampard needs more quality additions.

Everton’s budget isn’t exactly huge, even after selling Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, and a loan move could now be in the offing.

Everton want Ruben Vinagre

Record report that Everton are ‘very close’ to signing Sporting left back Ruben Vinagre on loan.

Everton would take on Vinagre’s salary in this situation whilst also having an option to buy the Portuguese talent permanently next summer.

Vinagre, 23, was in the Sporting ranks as a kid before moving on to Monaco in 2015.

Wolverhampton Wanderers pounced in 2017, taking Vinagre on loan as part of their Portuguese influx.

Vinagre showed promise as a speedy, attack-minded wing back and was branded ‘special’ by Nuno Espirito Santo.

Yet three loan spells away from Wolves materialised for Vinagre, joining Olympiacos, Familicao and then Sporting before joining the latter permanently this summer.

Sporting could immediately move Vinagre out though with Everton keen to secure the Portuguese ace this summer.

Vitaliy Mykolenko will head into the season as Everton’s first-choice left back but Vinagre will now come in as vital competition.

It’s key to highlight Kevin Thelwell’s influence here. Everton’s new director of football had a key role at Wolves during Vinagre’s time there and seemingly loved what he saw.

Vinagre looks set to secure his return to the Premier League with Everton, and whilst the Toffees will see this as cheap competition for places, Vinagre will see this as a golden second chance to shine in England.
