Southampton want Samuel Edozie and are now moving to try and hijack Bayer Leverkusen’s deal for the teenager.

The Saints have a great history of youth development but have now taken a different approach.

Southampton have now focused on raiding Manchester City, even going as far to bring in Joe Shields as Head of Recruitment.

City duo Gavin Bazunu and Romeo Lavia have joined Southampton on permanent deals, hoping to break through into first-team action.

Southampton have also had a £16million bid for Liam Delap rejected, and their attempts to pillage City’s development squad have continued.

Southampton want Samuel Edozie

The latest name in the mix is winger Edozie with Southampton in a race against time to get him signed up.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Southampton are trying to hijack Bayer Leverkusen’s deal to sign Edozie from City.

It’s claimed that a deal between City and Leverkusen is ‘almost agreed’ but Southampton have gone in with a late bid.

The Saints will now hope to get in and convince Edozie to snub Leverkusen and make the move to the South Coast.

Joining forces with Bazunu, Lavia and potentially Delap has to be hugely appealing to the City teenager.

Edozie, 19, was previously in the Millwall ranks and made the move to join City back in 2019.

The England Under-19 international hit two goals and one assist in 12 Premier League games last season.

That’s not all that exciting but Edozie is a tricky winger with great dribbling ability, predominantly playing on the left flank and cutting in on his right foot.

Edozie has major potential but with the pathway to first-team action at City pretty much blocked, Edozie could now move on.

Bazunu and Lavia have left the club for that very reason and with Southampton making their hijack attempt, Edozie could follow suit.
