Maxwel Cornet wants to join a club offering European football in a boost to West Ham United’s hopes of luring the Burnley winger back to the Premier League, as reported by The Athletic.
Some of the Ivorian’s finest performances have come on the continental stage. Just ask Pep Guardiola.
Cornet scored four times in three Champions League matches against Manchester City after all. One of those came in the 3-1 quarter-final victory during the summer of 2020.
And, having gone head-to-head with the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus and Barcelona in European football’s biggest club competition, Cornet hopes to swap the bread and butter of the Championship for a more familiar diet of champagne and caviar.
According to The Athletic, the former Lyon winger is ‘particularly keen’ on a club offering European football.
What that in mind, it is no stretch to suggest that West Ham may be Cornet’s preferred destination. At least, in contrast to Everton, Fulham and Nottingham Forest.
Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet in high demand

West Ham, after all, are the only one of the aforementioned quartet who will be playing on the continent next term, albeit in the UEFA Conference League.
The Hammers have been linked with a whole host of left-sided forwards; From Arnaut Danjuma to Filip Kostic, Manu Garcia to Justin Kluivert. And Cornet’s proven track record in the Premier League – plus a £17.5 million release clause – makes him a potentially inspired addition.
“I think we’re going to sit down at the end of the season and just watch a highlight reel of his best goals,” former Burnley team-mate Chris Wood said of Cornet last season.
“He’s got fantastic quality as a player, you see that on the pitch, and we’re lucky to have him. Long may it continue.”
Cornet scored nine often spectacular goals in 2021/22; A bright spark in a dark season for relegated Burnley.
And the prospect of Cornet joining West Ham over Nottingham Forest will put a wry smile on the faces of Hammers’ fans, after the men from the City Ground snatched Jesse Lingard from under David Moyes’ nose.
