Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has raved about Oleksandr Zinchenko on the club’s official website ahead of a potential transfer from Manchester City.

Arteta worked with Zinchenko when he was the assistant manager at Manchester City, and he believes that the Arsenal-bound ace is “an exceptional footballer”.

The Ukraine international, who can operate as a left-back or in midfield, watched Arsenal’s pre-season friendly match against Orlando City from the stands with Arsenal Technical Director Edu, and owners Stan and Josh Kroenke.

The Guardian reported earlier this week that Arsenal have agreed a £30 million deal with Premier League champions Manchester City over the transfer of Zinchenko in the summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal-bound Oleksandr Zinchenko

Arteta told Arsenal’s official website about Zinchenko: “There are still a few formalities to get everything completed but we’re really happy to have him.

“I know the player really well, he’s an exceptional footballer and he is someone that is going to bring as well another competitive edge to that dressing room.”

The Arsenal boss added: “He can play in both (defence and midfield). He was a natural No. 10 early in his career and we converted him into a left-back which can do a lot of things that we want in our way of playing.

“That versatility is something that is going to be important for the team because we have players in that position who are more specific full-back so I’m really happy.”

Exciting for the Gunners

In our view, Oleksandr Zinchenko would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal and would make the Gunners better.

We know that Kieran Tierney has had injury problems, and the Ukrainian could cover for the Scotland international at left-back.

When Tierney is in the starting lineup, then Zinchenko is likely to play on the left of midfield for Arsenal.

The Ukrainian is only 25, which means that he has his best years ahead of him.

We think that the Manchester City star would be an exciting signing for Arsenal, not just for now, but for years to come as well.
