Jermaine Beckford said he is hoping Leeds United are considering Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell during his role as co-commentator between the two sides on LUTV – during Friday’s pre-season clash.

Jesse Marsch fielded a third different left-back in the club’s third friendly since jetting off for Australia. It is since the club confirmed that first-choice left-back Junior Firpo will be missing until September with injury.

Jack Harrison started there against Brisbane Roar, Leif Davis against Villa, and now Pascal Struijk against Palace. At half-time, Harrison dropped into the left-back role – with Struijk replaced at the break, as he struggled.

Marsch has said the club are considering a signing on the left of the defence. Working as co-commentator alongside Bryn Law and Ben Parker, Leeds icon Beckford said he is hoping his old side consider Palace’s Mitchell.

“I am quietly hoping we would show a bit of interest in Tyrick Mitchell. He’s so confident, brilliant on the ball. One of Palace’s best players last season,” Beckford said in the first half on LUTV, watching Mitchell against Leeds.

Clearly, needs a left-back. But the chances of them prising Mitchell out of Palace is going to be enormously unlikely. Mitchell has been in Palace’s academy since 16, and has 65 senior outings for the Eagles.

His form has even earned two England caps. Why would he swap a club where he is first choice, situated in London – his birthplace – to join Leeds? Yes, he would be a stunning signing for Leeds. But he will surely stay at Palace.
