Paolo Maldini has told TuttoMercatoWeb that there remains a “confidence” AC Milan will sign Leeds target Charles De Ketelaere – after returning from a trip to Belgium in order to agree a fee.

Technical director Maldini, along with director of football Frederic Massara, travelled to Belgium on Wednesday. Their aim, to agree a fee with Brugge for De Ketelaere. The player is keen on a move, but the two sides are yet to agree.

Reports emanating from Maldini’s trip to Brugge for the £30million striker were not good – for the Serie A side. Indeed, prior to Maldini’s comments, it is said that despite meeting in person, a fee had still not been agreed.

A potential boost for Leeds, with Jesse Marsch confirming interest in the three-time Belgian champion. Now, Maldini has given a brief verdict of his trip: “How did it go? Good. There is confidence. Are you going to close? Let’s try”.

Maldini: ‘Confidence’ remains Milan will sign Leeds target De Ketelaere

To have travelled to Belgium and spent the day with Brugge in order to thrash out a deal for the versatile attacker – but to have not agreed a fee, is a worry. Maldini does not suggest either way if the two parties have an agreement.

If anything, he suggests there is still work to be done. Ultimately, De Ketelaere wants to join Milan over Leeds and that could be crucial as to determining where he ends up. Leeds are ready to meet Brugge’s demands.

The next few days will be interesting. If Milan cannot agree a fee for the Belgian star by the end of the week, you would think that perhaps, Brugge will grow tired of Milan’s approach to negotiations
