Jack Hendry was left out of Club Brugge’s squad for the Belgian Super Cup on Sunday as Vincent Kompany’s Burnley prepare a bid for the £4 million Scotland international, as reported by Het Laaste Nieuws.
Following Nathan Collins’ £20 million move to Molineux last week, Kompany has now seen every one of Burnley’s three first-choice central defenders leave Turf Moor since he was unveiled as Sean Dyche’s permanent successor.
The arrivals of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Luke McNally and CJ Egan-Riley should, in theory, help bring about the transition from the Dyche era to the reign of King Kompany.
McNally is the oldest of the trio at just 22, however. And it almost goes without saying that replacing James Tarkowski, Ben Mee and the aforementioned Collins with a couple of unproven youngsters playing Championship football for the very first time carries with it a degree of risk.
Burnley want to bring in Club Brugge misfit Jack Hendry
According to HLN, Burnley have approached the former Cetic youngster to enquire about whether he would be willing to join fellow Jupiler League imports Josh Cullen and Samuel Bastien in Lancashire. Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen is on his way too.

What’s more, Burnley are preparing an official bid. Time will tell whether they are willing to meet Club Brugge’s initial £4 million asking price.
The 27-year-old Scot, a rangy, ball-playing central defender who has attracted plenty of Premier League interest in the past, does not appear to be part of new Brugge boss Carl Hoefkens’ plans. The former West Brom stalwart omitted Hendry from his squad for Club Brugge’s 1-0 Super Cup victory over Gent.
Interestingly, Hendry linked with Burnley under Dyche too. And comparisons between him and John Stones should give Clarets fans an insight into what to expect.
“I’ve heard that (those Stones comparisons) a few times,” Hendry told the Scottish Sun. “I think it’s just down to the way I play. I’m quite similar in stature and stuff to him.
“Stones plays at Man City, at the ultimate level. That’s definitely something I strive to emulate.”
Hendry is also a target for Bundesliga outfit VFL Wolfsburg.
