Fausto Vera’s future appears to lie away from Argentinos Juniors with the reported Celtic target’s agent confirming that talks over a summer departure are ongoing, speaking to Marca.
Well, no one could ever accuse Vera of having his head turned. Two goals in Argentinos Juniors’ 3-1 victory over Barracas Central on Sunday took El Bicho up to fourth in the table, level on points with league leaders Godoy Cruz.
It is not Vera’s productivity in the final third that will have caught Celtic’s eye, however.
The Hoops are looking for a defensively-minded central midfielder capable of keeping the ball out of the net at the other end of the pitch. A new Nir Bitton, if you like. And Vera certainly fits the bill.
“He is a great central midfielder,” Argentine reporter Alejandro Giordano tells Lance.
“He has a good command of the ball, short and long passes. And, in the last few months, he has started to score more goals. He is very complete. The best player of the Argentinos Juniors and one of the best in the Argentine League.”

Argentinos Juniors will not keep Vera against his will. The club’s president confirmed last week that offers for the Albiceleste U23 international will be considered, even if a precarious financial situation means his price-tag has fallen considerably in recent months.
Vera, once valued at £9 million, could now move for about half that price.
“There are a number of clubs fighting to sign Fausto. He is a top player. It is normal that there is a lot of interest,” explains Kristian Bereit, Vera’s agent.
“As you can see, despite this, he continues to give everything for his childhood team; Argentinos Juniors. We are currently working with the board to, hopefully, reach an agreement for his departure.”
Vera is part of the Stellar Group Agency. An agency that also represents Fraser Forster, Odsonne Edouard, Scott Bain, Scott Sinclair, Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton.
