Gabriel Jesus has stated that Tottenham’s summer signing, Richarlison, is an ‘amazing player’ and he wishes him the best for the new Premier League season, but ‘not against Arsenal’.

The Brazil duo made transfers to Arsenal and Tottenham, respectively, this summer and when Jesus was asked who will score the most goals ahead of the new Premier League season, he simply responded by saying he hopes they are ‘fighting for the Golden Boot at the end of the season’.

There will be more emphasis on Jesus to score goals for Arsenal because he will be expected to play a central role under Mikel Arteta.

Whilst Richarlison has been brought in to add depth to Tottenham’s already-fearsome forward line that has Harry Kane and Heung-min Son leading the charge.

Nonetheless, when Jesus was asked about who will score more goals between himself and his fellow countryman across the capital, he issued the following response to Sky Sports.

“I hope we both can be fighting for the Golden Boot at the end of the season,” said Jesus. “I like him. He’s a very good guy. Amazing player.

“So I wish him all the best. But not against Arsenal.”

WHO GOT THE BETTER DEAL?

Tottenham paid £60 million for Richarlison’s talents (Sky Sports), whilst Jesus swapped Manchester City for the Emirates in a £45 million deal (BBC Sport).

From that perspective, it’s obvious that the Gunners got the better end of the stick, but it could also be argued that Jesus is the better player.

There’s no doubt that Arteta needed him more because the recent departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had left a hole in the final third for the Champions League-chasing club.

It’s a different story at Hotspur Way because they already have two outstanding forwards, so Antonio Conte’s task when trying to add to that was very different to what Arteta was looking for.

Either way, heading into the new Premier League season, not only will the duo be fighting on the domestic stage, but they might also be competing for a starting spot ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later on this year.
