Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has seemingly opened the door on a move to sign Harry Kane following the blockbuster departure of Robert Lewandowski to FC Barcelona.

Speaking to Bild via the Evening Standard, the German goalkeeping legend hinted that Bayern could target Kane as a replacement for Lewandowski, who this weekend finally agreed a move to Barcelona after weeks of speculation surrounding the Polish superstar.

With Lewandowski arguably one of the few strikers in world football who is better than Kane, replacing the 34-year-old will be a tough ask for Bayern, who this summer have already signed Sadio Mane and renewed Serge Gnabry’s contract. However, a new leading attacker would be beneficial for the reigning Bundesliga champions.

And Kane could be the perfect signing for Bayern, with the England captain in the prime of his career and likely open to a move where he will be at the forefront of winning silverware, something the world-class Tottenham star is yet to achieve for either club or country.

With a reported £200,000-a-week contract, though, Bayern could struggle to match the wages Kane would want should he move to Bavaria. However, the German giants seem confident that a deal could be done for the Premier League superstar if Kahn’s comments are to be believed.

The Bundesliga official said when asked about the Tottenham attacker as a potential transfer target this summer: “He is under contract at Tottenham. Sure, he is an absolute top striker, but that’s all a dream of the future. So let’s see what happens.”

One year is an eternity in football, and it’s easy to forget that 12 months ago the entire sport was fixated on where Kane would end up following reports that the striker was keen to leave Tottenham. However, things could not be more different for the England skipper.

The arrival of Antonio Conte and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League has made a departure for Kane feel almost impossible this summer, and Bayern could struggle big time to sign the Premier League superstar even if they have the funds to please Daniel Levy.
