Speaking on LFCTV, Jason McAteer has been waxing-lyrical about Luke Chambers as he watched Liverpool’s pre-season training session in Singapore.
The young full-back actually got a chance to play for the senior team in their friendly against Manchester United this week, and while the Reds were heavily beaten on the day, Chambers was one of the better performers.
McAteer was very impressed by the 18-year-old, and he was once again blown away by him in training on Thursday.
What’s been said?
McAteer commented on Chambers as he watched training.
“I don’t know what’s happening, we seem to be producing these really composed young kids on the ball. They always have time and space, they understand where they are on the pitch, their first touch is great and their decision making is great as well,” McAteer said.
“He has a great delivery, I was really impressed by his decision-making when he didn’t have the ball, when to push in, where to go, he looked really composed on the ball as well.
“Just watching him there doing free-kicks in training, he was putting some fantastic balls in, flat, quick, I was really really impressed with him, a great left-foot and he’s also got a good right foot as well.”

Robertson’s replacement?
Chambers is making waves at Liverpool at the age of 18, and there’s reason to believe he could eventually be Andrew Robertson’s long-term replacement at Anfield.
The Scottish full-back will be Liverpool’s first-choice left-back for a number of years yet, but with Chambers growing and developing, he could be a star of the future.
As McAteer said, Chambers has an incredible left-foot, and he put that to good use last season, scoring nine goals from left-back, and if he can finetune the other areas of his game, he could be a brilliant fit as an attacking full-back under Jurgen Klopp.
Chambers is certainly a player to keep an eye on in the coming years.
