Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has told his latest press conference – as per the club’s YouTube – that he is a huge admirer of Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, praising his methodology and his first year as Celtic boss.

Postecoglou, 56, arrived at Celtic last summer after taking the Yokohama F. Marinos to the J-League title in 2019. However, there were doubts given he had only managed previously in Australia and Japan.

But he has worked miracles at Celtic. The Aussie gaffer was given a Celtic squad that required major reconstruction but his signings have been excellent, his style of play clearly works, and Celtic fans already love him after a league title.

Leeds are in Australia and Marsch will take on Brisbane Roar – Postecoglou’s old side – on Thursday morning. Asked about the success of Postecoglou, the Leeds gaffer was full of praise and praised his “distinct style of play”.

“I’m a big admirer of Ange. I think the work he has done here [Australia], in Japan and then in Scotland has been really, really good. What a great first year he had with Celtic. I love seeing people challenge themselves.

“Have clear ideas, have teams that play in a very distinct manner and stay true to their identity. It is inspiring,” Marsch told his Leeds press conference, ahead of Thursday morning’s clash with A-League side Roar.

Postecoglou has exceeded expectation while at Celtic – but that could quickly change. As Celtic manager, the pressure is guiding your side to victory in every match and while he did that well last year, it could easily change.

Rangers have bought well in the market recently, bringing in John Souttar, Tom Lawrence, Antonio Colak and Rabbi Matondo. The pressure will be on Celtic to match that, in the coming weeks and months.
