Last week, Leeds and West Ham missed out on the signing of Luka Jovic, who joined Fiorentina from Real Madrid.

The Serie A side managed to secure the Serbia international’s signature on a free transfer, after he endured a tough time in Spain following a £52.4m move from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019.

If Jesse Marsch and David Moyes weren’t already annoyed about missing out on his services, they surely will be now after Jovic shone on his Fiorentina debut.

What’s the story?

Well, the 24-year-old impressively netted four goals in his first appearance for the Italian side, as they recorded an emphatic 7-0 win over Vicenza.

Jovic scored all of his goals within a 28-minute spell, and amazingly, he actually outdid his efforts at the Santiago Bernabeu in doing so.

In 51 appearances for Real Madrid, the Serbian scored just three goals as he struggled to adapt to La Liga.

However, on the basis of his debut, Jovic clearly feels far more comfortable in Italian football than he did in Spain.

Despite his problems in Madrid, he is still just 24 years of age, and if Fiorentina can nurture him back to his Eintracht Frankfurt form, they will have some player on their hands.

In 93 appearances for the German side, Jovic scored 40 goals, while also providing ten assists.

Leeds & West Ham have alternatives

After missing out on Jovic, it seems Leeds and West Ham are already looking elsewhere.

In the latter’s case, a bid for Gianluca Scamacca has been made, although the east Londoners face competition from Paris Saint-Germain.

In regards to Leeds, they made a few bids for Club Brugge wonderkid Charles De Ketelaere, although with the Belgian holding out for AC Milan, Marsch is now focusing on a move for Arnaud Kalimuendo.

In fact, the Whites may only be £4m away from agreeing a deal for the PSG striker.

Be sure to keep an eye on things, as we expect both Leeds and West Ham to find a new striker this summer.
