According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are considering a club-record bid for Alexander Isak.

This move has the backing of the higher-ups at St James’ Park with this report stating that the hierarchy at the club have unanimously backed the move.

In fact, this report claims that Isak is now the club’s top transfer target.

Unfortunately, Newcastle would have to pay a pretty penny for the Swedish striker, and according to this report, they would have to spend the majority of their remaining transfer budget to get him.

That would be a risk to say the list.

Indeed, it’s fair to say that Isak has been somewhat hit and miss as of late.

He only scored six La Liga goals in 32 appearances last term, but that hasn’t led to a drop in his asking price as a fee of more than £50m is being discussed in this report.

Newcastle could certainly do with a new striker. After all, Callum Wilson and Chris Wood aren’t getting any younger and they’re not at an elite level, but after a stop-start season, Isak does feel like quite a gamble.

Although, at the same time, The 22-year-old is certainly a talent. He’s attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and even Barcelona in the past, with reports stating officials at Camp Nou ‘love’ Isak.

He had a brilliant 2020/21 season for Sociedad, and he was one of the breakout stars of Euro 2020 as his fancy footwork and incredibly physique dazzled fans and pundits alike.

However, it is tough to look past last season’s poor return, and we can’t help but think there’s plenty of risk attached to this deal.

This is a player we’ve wanted to see in the Premier League for a long time, but if Newcastle are looking to spend the rest of their transfer budget on one player, they may be better off looking elsewhere.
