Turkish outlet Takvim claim Galatasaray are in shock talks to sign Leeds United attacker Rodrigo this summer as they struggle to push through a move for Cagliari’s Joao Pedro. Given the rivalry between the clubs, it is incredibly unlikely.

What is true, is that 31-year-old Rodrigo has struggled at Elland Road since his club-record move from Valencia. Playing just 61 times in two seasons, the Spain international has scored only 13 goals.

Glimpses of brilliance, interspersed with injury and a lack of momentum. But Jesse Marsch has added the forward to the club’s leadership group – and he even lead his side out in the club’s first pre-season friendly against Blackpool.

He has two years left on his deal – but Takvim report that a shock move is on the cards. It is claimed that Leeds and Galatasaray are in talks to take Rodrigo to the SuperLig side – with Rodrigo boasting a value of just £10million.

Of course, the rivalry emanates from the murder of two Leeds fans back in 2000 – Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight. Harry Kewell made the move, albeit with Liverpool in between, and was heavily criticised for doing so.

Even Gjanni Alioski was linked with Gala last summer, only to eventually move to the Middle East. Nigel Martyn gave his take on the incident 22 years ago, underlining the rivalry. It makes a move for Rodrigo entirely unlikely.

If Leeds are willing to entertain any bids from the Turkish side, which would be a shock, Rodrigo will surely reject such a move – even he is looking for an exit. As aforementioned, a move that is very, very unlikely.
