According to The Athletic, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in signing Alexander Isak, a striker Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool reportedly bid for earlier this year.

The Athletic have reported this morning that Newcastle’s head of recruitment, Steve Nickson, has followed Isak for years.
The Real Sociedad forward ‘continues to be mentioned in transfer discussions at St James’ Park’, according to the report, which has added that the cost involved in signing the 22-year-old ‘is proving prohibitive’ for Newcastle.
Previous Liverpool bid
Isak is rated highly in the footballing community and was reportedly the subject of a bid earlier in the match.
Mundo Deportivo reported in March that Liverpool made a bid of €70 million (£59 million). for Isak through intermediaries.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona were also mentioned in that particular report.
It shows just how good the forward is even though he did not have a particularly great season in 2021-22.
Highly rated
The 22-year-old scored six goals and gave two assists in 26 La Liga starts for Sociedad last season.
Isak scored three goals in six Europa League matches last season.
The striker, though, was brilliant for Sociedad in 2020-21, scoring 17 goals and giving two assists in the league.
Isak starred for Sweden at the Euro 2020 finals last summer as well, impressing former Tottenham Hotspur striker and BBC MOTD presenter Gary Lineker.
Lineker described Isak an “exceptional talent” on Twitter in June 2021.
