Alberth Elis is ‘obviously going to leave’ Ligue 1 crisis-club Bordeaux amid interest from Premier League duo Leeds United and West Ham, the striker’s agent tells Diario Diaz.

You’ll forgive us if we’re not gasping with surprise.

When the Honduran international arrived in Bordeaux last summer, he surely cannot have expected things to go quite this terribly. Relegation was bad enough. But, according to 20Minutes, Les Girondins could soon be plummeting all the way down to France’s fifth tier as punishment for their dire financial situation.

For a club who won the league in 2009, this has been quite the collapse.

At least 2021/22 can be considered a success for Elis from a personal perspective. His nine goals are a more than respectable tally during a debut season at a club for whom problems are raining down like hailstones.

Per L’Equipe, Elis’ pace and finesse has caught the eye of Leeds. West Ham – still in the market for a new number nine – remains another potential destination

“It is obvious that Elis is going to leave Bordeaux. They are talking to many clubs. And the player and his family are very calm, analysing everything offer that comes,” says Daniel Solis, the one-time Celtic target’s agent.

“We know what options there are but we have to choose a very good one. There is no rush.”

‘A dream’

Elis, formerly of Houston Dynamo, has been linked with a return to the MLS. The 26-year-old has made no secret of his desire to follow in the footsteps of Wilson Palacios and Maynor Figueroa, however, admitting when quizzed about Leeds’ interest last month that the Premier League remains a ‘dream’ (El Heraldo).

“The (best thing) for Alberth is to be in a league that competes among the best in Europe, and a team that competes for important things,” Solis adds. That is why we are taking into account all these options.

“I have spoken with the clubs that are interested in Alberth. He has shown in two European leagues that he is a player ready and prepared to take the leap.

“I can’t tell you the names of the clubs but I have spoken with teams from important leagues.”

Bordeaux reportedly value Elis at £12 million but may now be forced to accept a knock-down fee. Welcome to the Matmut Atlantique’s closing down sale; Everything must go.
