Antonio Colak should ‘score a lot of goals’ in the Scottish Premiership as Rangers close in on the PAOK striker, former Greek Super League ace Antonis Petropoulos tells Metrosport.

Colak is not the first talented footballer to find life tough at a particular club.

Romelu Lukaku scored by the bucketload either side of two equally forgettable stints at Chelsea. Dennis Bergkamp was a disaster at Inter Milan. Ditto Angel Di Maria at Manchester United.

So just because Colak arrives at Ibrox on the back of two league goals in 19 appearances for PAOK, that should not distract from the fact that the remainder of his CV paints the picture of a reliable number nine capable of taking to the Scottish scene like a wrecking ball smashing through a tower of bowling pins.

“I’ve watched Cholak. I think it’s a good step for him. In the Scottish league, he could score a lot of goals,” says Petropoulos, who played for AEK Athens amongst others.

“We have seen it in other cases. A player not succeeding in one team but doing well elsewhere. Let’s also remember (Dimitar) Berbatov at PAOK. We were saying that he forgot to score goals! A football player may not click in one team.”

The legendary Berbatov netted just four times for PAOK; A far cry from those heady days at Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Monaco.

And Rangers fans will be hoping that Colak who arrives in Glasgow will be less like the one who has dragged his feet in Greece and more like the one who almost single-handedly knocked Steven Gerrard’s side out of the Champions League during a prolific loan spell at Malmo.

Sky Sports say that Colak – who has already agreed personal terms on a three-year deal – is due in Scotland to undergo a medical. Rangers will pay £1.8 million.

And the final obstacle has now been cleared, with PAOK bringing in Brandon Thomas from Malaga as Colak’s replacement.
