Aston Villa have received a boost from Bayern Munich over their pursuit to sign RB Leipzig star Konrad Laimer, with the Bundesliga champions failing to make any progress over a potential deal.
According to Sky Germany via GGFN, the Bavarian giants can’t make any movement on signing the 25-year-old midfielder with Marcel Sabitzer still on Bayern’s books, with the Austrian international wanting to remain with the German side rather than move on.
As a result, Bayern don’t have the space squad nor financial capacity to make a move to sign Laimer, something that will be music to Villa’s ears, with Steven Gerrard’s side also chasing the Leipzig dynamo, who could be available this summer for a reported £17m.
With the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham also reportedly interested in Laimer, the competition to sign the Austrian will be tough for Villa, especially with Bayern also in the mix. However, this latest update from Germany is exactly what the Villains needed.
Indeed, Laimer himself has admitted that he grew up idolizing Gerrard, who has proven to be a huge draw as a manager when it comes to signing players, with Villa this summer alone beating some big clubs to bring the likes of Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos to Villa Park.
And with Bayern now unable to sign Laimer, for now, Villa could use the opportunity to make a move to sign the Leipzig star, who could add even more creative and tenacious quality to Gerrard’s squad ahead of what is to be an exciting season for the Birmingham-based club.
Villa must do all they can to beat Bayern to Laimer signing

Laimer has proven over his five-year career with Leipzig to be one of the Bundesliga’s top midfield talents, and with Bayern falling behind in the race to sign the Austrian, Villa must be doing all they can to win the battle to land the 25-year-old.
After all, an extra central midfield alongside Kamara would be welcome for Villa this summer, and with Laimer a player who worships Gerrard, getting the Bundesliga maestro convinced to move to the Premier League side could be a lot easier than first imagined.
