According to Globo Esporte, Newcastle have held talks with Santos as they look to bring Angelo Gabriel to the Premier League.

What’s the story?

Well, the South American outlet claims that Newcastle sent Steve Nickson to Brazil to have a closer look at the 17-year-old sensation.

Santos suffered a 2-1 defeat to Flamengo in the Campeonato Brasileiro, although Nickson stayed around to ask how much the Brazilian outfit would accept for Angelo Gabriel.

The Magpies supposedly indicated they would be willing to pay €20m (£17m) for the teenager, although Globo Esporte believe Santos said that would not be enough.

Interestingly, the Brazilian outlet add that Newcastle also spoke to Marisa Alija last month, who represents the exciting forward, in an attempt to find out how much Santos would accept.

Unfortunately, Globo Esporte do not disclose any sort of asking price, so it remains to be seen what sum of money Santos would accept for their teenage sensation.

According to Goal, however, Angelo Gabriel has a release clause worth £52m.

If negotiations continue to prove difficult, perhaps Bruno Guimaraes or Joelinton could try to lure their fellow Brazilian to Tyneside.

Newcastle could have a gem in Angelo Gabriel

If Nickson and Dan Ashworth somehow pull this deal off, Newcastle could have a potential Ballon d’Or winner on their hands.

In a feature written by Goal, it was revealed that Angelo Gabriel actually surpassed Pele and Neymar to become the second-youngest debutant in Santos history – behind the iconic Edu, who debuted at 14.

He is already a regular starter for Santos at the age of 17, and Santos are hopeful that he will go on to emulate Robinho and Neymar in European football.

By all accounts, Angelo Gabriel is the next big thing to emerge from South America – if Newcastle really are on his case this early, it suggests Nickson and Ashworth know Brazilian football well.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the Magpies have more than enough money to meet the £52m release clause if they choose to do so.
