Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Arsenal have ‘made inroads’ to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans – even asking the Belgian’s representatives what kind of wage the ex-Monaco star would like.

Tielemans, 25, looks as though he will be leaving Leicester this summer after more than three years at the King Power – in which he has clocked up 158 appearances in all competitons. Tielemans is in the final year of his contract.

Reports this week state the Tottenham target is fully sold on a move to Arsenal and would reject Manchester United. The £30million-rated midfielder, though, remains at Leicester with Arsenal having signed Fabio Vieira from Porto.

But Jones has given an update. He says Arsenal have ‘made inroads’ to sign the Leicester midfielder, who is in the final year of his contract, and have even asked what kind of contract details he is looking for at The Emirates.

“Arsenal have definitely made inroads on this transfer, down to trying to discover what personal terms would be needed,” transfer expert Jones declared, when discussing a potential move to Arsenal for Tielemans on Give Me Sport.

Tielemans would be a wonderful signing. In this case, it is not whether Arsenal need another midfielder – they don’t. They have Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, Albert Lokonga, Martin Odegaard and now, Vieira.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Lucas Torreira are back at the club after loans in Italy. But the difference is, is that Tielemans is a vast improvement on any of Arsenal’s players in midfield as a deep-lying playmaker.

For £30million, it is an absolute no-brainer. He fits Edu’s criteria, between 20 and 25 with huge experience. Tielemans already boasts more than 400 club appearances and 52 caps for Belgium. Arsenal must sign Tielemans.
