Newcastle United are reportedly one of the clubs considering a move for Chelsea flyer Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer – a player Alan Shearer heaped enormous praise on him in 2019 for his ability with both feet.

Hudson-Odoi, 21, managed just 22 starts in all competitions under Thomas Tuchel last season. The England international has suffered from huge competition – whether that be on the wing, or at right wing-back.

Reece James, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Mason Mount and plenty more have forced £120k-a-week (Spotrac) Hudson-Odoi to watch from the bench for the majority of 21-22. He finds himself with less than two years left on his contract.

Reports claim Newcastle have a ‘significant interest’ in the Chelsea attacker. A player that Toon legend Shearer was seriously impressed by three years ago, if his quotes are to go by, for his ability to “spray” the ball with both feet.

“He had such a terrible injury. He’s 18 years of age and can spray the ball around like that, left or right, and he is full of confidence,’ Shearer told MOTD in 2019, as per the Metro. “He can go on the outside and come on the inside.”

Newcastle considering Hudson-Odoi: Shearer praise in 2019

Newcastle need a right-winger and Hudson-Odoi would be a brilliant signing – either on loan, or permanently. His contract situation certainly opens up the possibility of bringing him in beyond the end of next season.

Perhaps, a loan-to-buy deal could be orchestrated between the two clubs. It would give Newcastle the option to buy him. But if Chelsea do want to keep him, especially he if he shines on loan, they could look to do that.

But he is the ideal fit for Eddie Howe’s side. Young, but experienced. Premier League proven. He could be another addition alongside Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes that become the face of the new Newcastle.
