Phillips has completed move to Manchester City: Cooper message

It is a sensational bit of business from Manchester City. To sign an England regular, from a Premier League rival, with Phillips still only 26, for a grand total of £45million, is stunning business.

Is he as good as Rodri? Probably not. Is he good as Fernandinho was in his prime? Probably not. But under Pep Guardiola’s stewardship, he will only get better and after a couple of seasons – he could be just as good.

For Phillips, it is also a superb move. He might not start every week, but he joins a side that will be favourites to win the Premier League title next season. Phillips can now add silverware to his already impressive career.
