Norberto Neto is not part of Xavi’s plans at Barcelona as Arsenal look into a deal that would see the goalkeeper leave La Liga for the Premier League, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Xavi, during his first ten months in the Camp Nou dugout, has already proven himself to be a rather ruthless operator. And, with Barcelona’s pre-season preparations getting underway on Monday morning, the 2010 World Cup winner is on the offensive as he looks to trim the fat from a bloated and gout-ridden Blaugrana squad.
Xavi reportedly told the seldom-seen Neto that he was not required at the club’s training ground for the first day of pre-season. The legendary midfielder had similar discussions with Riqui Puig, Oscar Mingueza, Clement Lenglet the injury-hit, seemingly Rennes-bound Samuel Umtiti.
Lenglet should join Tottenham Hotspur in the near future. The £32 million centre-back has been encouraged to put pen to paper with Spurs after talks with Antonio Conte. Lenglet missed training on Monday.
Is Neto following Barcelona team-mate Clement Lenglet to North London?

According to Cadena Ser, Neto – unlike Lenglet – did arrive at Barca’s training ground this morning. But it’s highly unlikely that he will travel to the USA for the club’s American tour later this month.
Arsenal are long-time admirers of the former Juventus, Valencia and Fiorentina glovesman. Per Sport, Neto’s representatives are trying to force through a move to the Emirates. What’s more, Barcelona are willing to tear up the final 12 months of his contract and let the Brazil international leave for absolutely nothing.
Neto would, in theory, act as a replacement for Bernd Leno in North London. Leno is in talks to join Fulham. And Neto, who has spent the majority of his top-level career as a number two, would provide experienced back-up behind Aaron Ramsdale, with newcomer Matt Turner making up the numbers.
The 32-year-old started just 11 La Liga matches after joining Barcelona back in 2019. £31 million for a back-up goalkeeper? Whoever said Barcelona had more money than sense?
