Kris Boyd fears that Rangers will be powerless to prevent Ryan Kent from leaving Ibrox if long-time Leeds United renew their interest in the Scottish Premiership winner, speaking to Sky Sports.

The former Liverpool youngster – like so many other members of Steven Gerrard’s Invincibles squad – is now in his 12 months as a Gers player.

And while speculation regarding Kent’s future has been thin on the ground so far this summer, unlike Joe Aribo for instance, there will be plenty of clubs south of the border who will be keeping abreast of the winger’s situation.

“The reality is Rangers night have to do a few sales this summer so players don’t leave for nothing next season,” says Boyd, the Scottish Premiership’s all-time record goalscorer.

“I don’t think Rangers are in a position where they’re just going to roll over and let people take their players.

“There are obviously finances behind the club that (mean) Rangers can negotiate with teams now. It’s not a case where teams are just going to phone up and say; ‘There’s the offer and we’re taking your player’.”

Will Leeds United make another move for Rangers’ Ryan Kent?

Leeds United are long-time admirers of Kent; A £7 million forward who has proven to be worth every penny and a damn sight more since signing permanently in the summer of 2019. And while Leeds haven’t been linked with any great regularity since Marcelo Bielsa’s heart-wrenching departure, it would hardy be a surprise to see the Whites coming knocking again (The Athletic).

“The reality is Rangers have got a number of players going out of contract next season. And it’s very unlikely they will be able to keep every single one,” Boyd adds.

“Usually when you’re going out of contract you know what kind of figures you want. And you wouldn’t imagine Rangers would be able to get to anywhere near what, say Leeds, would be able to offer Ryan Kent if he was to go there on a free transfer.”

Kent scored just three goals in 2021/22 but he did produce a staggering 20 assists from the left wing.
