Leeds United are ready and willing to pay a club-record amount to sign Charles De Ketelaere this summer.

Earlier this week, The Daily Mail reported that Leeds had made an offer of around £26 million to sign the 21-year-old Belgian playmaker.

That looks unlikely to succeed, given that Leicester City and Italian outfits are also chasing the Club Brugge sensation.

The Belgian club want around £34.6 million to sell De Ketelaere on a permanent basis this summer.

And according to 90 Min, Leeds are among the clubs willing to pay that amount.

However, the report adds that the Foxes – also willing to spend that – are confident about signing the young maestro.

If, in theory, Leeds succeed with that amount, De Ketelaere would be their most expensive signing of all time.

A £30 million addition of Rodrigo in 2020 is currently the most that the Elland Road outfit have ever spent on a player.

And if United do succeed here, they will be hoping that De Ketelaere is a little more influential than the Spaniard who, honestly, hasn’t proven worth the money spent on him.

Having said that, Leicester, as the report claims, are still favourites to sign him so Jesse Marsch and Victor Orta are fighting an uphill battle at the moment, it would seem.
