Leeds United have entered the transfer race for Everton target and Tottenham midfielder, Harry Winks, according to a report.

The Liverpool Echo claim that the longer Winks stays put at Tottenham this summer, the more his current value could drop, with a number of Premier League teams keen to take him on board.

After Leeds survived relegation on the final day of the Premier League season, Jesse Marsch needs to improve and bulk up his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Even more so, if the American loses star man Kalvin Phillips – it has been suggested that a fee of £43 million has been agreed with Manchester City for the English midfielder.

Leeds and Everton are two of the two clubs mentioned, but could the Toffees hold an advantage with Spurs set to sign Richarlison from the Merseyside club?

Only time will tell, as the 2022 summer transfer window enters a pretty busy period, with teams returning to pre-season and managers wanting players through their doors before they jet-off on their big tours.

WINKS ONCE COMPARED TO STEVEN GERRARD

From being an England international to struggling to make the matchday squad at Tottenham, it has been an up and down career for Winks so far.

The 26-year-old still has two-years remaining on his contract in north London, but for a long while now, it has seemed as though his time is up at the club.

The fact that his boyhood club are willing to let him go at a time when they are riding such a high wave, just goes to show how his career needs picking up.

But, it wasn’t all gloom for the technical midfielder, who his former teammate and now Watford player, Moussa Sissoko, once compared to Steven Gerrard back in 2018.

Sissoko told French outlet Foot Mercato: “Winks is a very good player who reminds me of Steven Gerrard. Has the same profile. He is evolving, he is confident. He’s in the England team so that proves that he is a quality player. He will explode in the years to come.”
