Jason Marsden, who voiced Binx in the original Hocus Pocus, will not be reprising his role in the sequel due to be released later this year.

Yes, unfortunately, the sarcastic feline we all came to love in the original won’t be making the a return in Hocus Pocus 2. Although the trailer teased a suspiciously similar black cat, it seems even if it is Binx, he won’t be sounding the same.

Marsden’s absence from the sequel has no official reason. However, E are reporting that a ‘close friend’ of the actor says he will not be returning. It isn’t certain yet whether Binx will be returning, but if he does, then he may sound a little different…

Of course, Binx’s soul was set free at the end of the first Hocus Pocus film, meaning the hundreds of years he’d been cursed to live as a cat came to an end.

His soul was set free and he was reunited with his little sister Emily, who was killed by the Sanderson sisters.

So depending on when the story of Hocus Pocus 2 is set, this could explain Binx’s absence.

Due to filming conflicts, Thora Birch, who played Dani in the original, won’t be returning either. Supposedly, an early draft of the script saw Dani help the three new teens in defeating the Sanderson sisters. However, Birch could not participate so this script was abandoned.

As the trailer shows, Bette Midler, Sarah-Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are of course reprising their iconic roles. Well, it wouldn’t be the same without them! Also making a return is Doug Jones as zombie Billy Butcherson.

Plenty of new faces will be joining the cast as well, including Hannah Waddingham of Ted Lasso and Sex Education fame.
