According to Brazilian presenter Milton Neves, Santos wonderkid Marcos Leonardo is on his way to the Premier League with Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, Neves is supposedly known for his humorous footballing opinions, although his comments may carry some substance based on a few whispers coming from South America.

After Santos drew with Corinthians on Sunday, Neves said: “Corinthians yesterday escaped being defeated by the Santos kids. Marcos Leonardo, who’s going to Liverpool, this guy is the new Romário!”

Now, some may argue that Neves was simply emphasising Leonardo’s talent by stating that he is good enough to play for Liverpool, although the 19-year-old may actually be heading to Anfield.

The comments come after South American football pundit Veloso claimed that the teenager has already been sold to “an English group” and is set to join an English club – very interesting, to say the least.

If Jürgen Klopp has got his hands on Leonardo, then Liverpool fans should be very excited.

The Santos No.9 scored 11 goals in 29 appearances last season, while also providing three assists as he continues to make a name for himself over in Brazil’s Série A.

In our view, this would be incredible business by Julian Ward.

Leonardo was recently included in Goal‘s list of South America’s most talented youngsters, where they likened him to Neymar.

The teenager also admitted to Goal that he idolises Cristiano Ronaldo, and hopes to play with the six-time Ballon d’Or winner once day.

In that respect, Liverpool should hope Manchester United don’t express an interest in his services, or they may lose out on his talents to the Red Devils.

However, if Neves and Veloso are to be trusted, then it seems Klopp may have already wrapped up a deal for Leonardo.

Only time will tell what happens, but be sure to keep an eye on this interesting situation.
