Atletico Madrid have already been linked with a couple of Tottenham players this summer – and now, Mundo Deportivo says they want to sign another in the form of out-of-favour defender Japhet Tanganga.
The 23-year-old defender spent the entire second half of the season out with a knee injury – allowing Cristian Romero to nail down the right-sided position in Antonio Conte’s back three. He can operate as a wing-back too.
But he is much-more suited to the right centre-back role. It means he is firmly down the pecking order behind Romero and even possibly Davinson Sanchez. At 23, he has only played 43 times at senior level.
Tanganga might be open to a move this summer and Atletico Madrid will be extremely tempting. Indeed, the England Under-21 international is not the only Spurs man to be linked with a move to Diego Simeone’s side.
Reports say that Spurs have give Atleti the chance to sign Gio Lo Celso this summer, while Emerson Royal has constantly been a target. Atletico want to sign a right-back, to finally replace Kieran Trippier.

Atletico Madrid want to sign Tottenham defender Tanganga
What a brilliant move it would be for Tanganga. He would certainly get plenty of game time at Atletico given their lack of depth, more so than he is likely to receive at Spurs. Conte is likely to bring in another defender.
Djed Spence could join as a right wing-back and another centre-back could come in. Tanganga has very little chance of breaking into Conte’s side. But his homegrown status could make him valuable to Spurs this summer.
